Sports Marketing Office Seeks Facility & Event Information
An important component of Maryland’s efforts to strengthen sports tourism and increase the number of amateur, collegiate and professional athletic events hosted here, the directory will provide a one-stop-shop for event organizers and representatives to easily access critical information on sports facilities, amenities and upcoming events. The directory will be a cornerstone of the state’s inaugural sports web site being launched this spring.
“ Maryland’s exceptional facilities and natural resources make it a top-tier destination for regional, national and international sporting events,” said Christian S. Johansson, Acting Secretary of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development. “This new interactive web-based resource guide will give Maryland better access to the lucrative sports marketing industry and increase the number of events hosted in our backyard.”
The Maryland Office of Sports Marketing, led by Director Terrance (Terry) Hasseltine, is a joint initiative of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development and the Maryland Stadium Authority. .
“ Our ultimate goal is to provide event rights’ holders of key sporting events with an overview of Maryland’s abundant sporting resources,” said Hasseltine. “Given Maryland’s rich sports culture, we anticipate featuring more than 500 venues in the guide’s first phase, thus providing our partners around the state with a resource to aide them in securing more sporting events at a regional, national and international level. A second phase to be launched this summer will feature high school sports venues.”
Facility representatives interested in being featured in the Directory are invited to submit their information on-line at http://marylandsports.us/sportforms by completing a facility profile including contact information, facility location and description, fees and featured activities.
