The Wonders of Nature

Sort of off the beaten path, but what a jewel to treasure when you get there. To see the cypress tree in its natural habitat and learn of its growth cycle was quite fascinating. I was also impressed with the tremendous amount of information about other animal species in the swamp. The solitude and beauty alone should make this a place for all to see.
A true gem!

We stopped here on a day trip to the area. It was really cold, so we were looking for things to do with our 4 year old and 5 month old indoors. We had an amazing experience! We just happened to be there on the day that they were feeding their large albino snapping turtle. Wow! Loved the beehive and the owl. My daughter enjoyed all of the hands on items. We also decided to brave the weather and do the swamp walk which is really nice. I would love to go back in warmer weather!
Very Nice Hike and Nature Trail

Came by here while in Solomons and this is a great place to stop. The young lady in the nature center was excellent. She let our kids help feed the turtles and brought over a scavenger hunt for the kids to work on. The hike along the boardwalk trail was much fun and the kids had a great time looking for the various animals that could be found. The bugs were not too bad, and just some bug spray on and around your legs should be sufficient. When you are in the area make sure you stop by here.
We had fun!

We went on a field trip for my son's preschool class. We were supposed to do stuff outside but due to the weather we had to stay inside and they did a wonderful job with the kids keeping them entertaining. The girl running the program was really good with getting the kids involved. Would absolutely go back!
Interesting and fun - what a nice surprise.

Okay, I'm not much on swamps but I found this place really interesting and fun. The Pros: Nice visitor center, on the small side but loaded with hands on things for kids, i.e., lots of touch-and-feel kind of things. There was a honey bee colony inside (very safe) that was way cool and you can watch them coming and going through a window in the building. Well marked path and boardwalk that takes you deep into the heart of the cypress swamp. Not an overly long walk but the builders of it were kind enough to put in areas where you can sit and just listen to swamps sounds. Free admission. Areas to picnic. Clean. Now for the cons: Well, it's a swamp. When we were there we had NO problem with bugs but that's because there'd been a huge rainfall the night before. Might want to take bug spray just in case. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience. I imagine kids or those with short attention spans would like this place. We spent 1 1/2 hours here.
