I have been going to Ft. Smallwood Park all my life. Since Anne Arundel County Parks took over a few years ago, the park has flourished. Everything has been updated to include the large fishing pier. All Anne Arundel County Parks are free to Veterans and Active Duty, just show you ID at the gate for a free pass.

We visited there for about seven years during a period of time with jobs. A very nice time we had there.

Fort Smallwood Park has come a LONG way since it's takeover by AA County. Families can enjoy walking trails, pavilions, pieces of the old gun battery located there, fishing, a new large playground, volleyball, beachfront (no swimming) and biking. The braod view lets you take in the Key Bridge and beyond. As of my last visit, only port-a-potties were available, so plan ahead! Also, be advised that the park is closed on Wednesdays. There is a fee to enter-- $6. A $40 annual sticker offers admission to Ft. Smallwood Park, Kinder Park, Downs Park and Quiet Waters.

Most recently I took my grandchildren to Fort Smallwood Park on a fishing trip. I liked the park, but it is not a convenient place for people in wheelchairs, since there are only port-a-pots, and wheelchairs do not fit into them. This is a fine park for walkers, but not wheelchairs.
