Appalachian Trail – Voted one of the top 20 trails in the nation by trails.com. Maryland’s 40-mile portion of the 2,168-mile route incorporates South Mountain, Gathland and Washington Monument state parks.
Swallow Falls State Park – Home of the 53-foot-high Muddy Creek Falls. Linked to Herrington Manor State Park by a six-mile trail. Both sites feature circuit day hikes.
