Spring is a great time of year to visit public gardens Maryland. Any of these green oases – with ornamental, heirloom or native plants, topiary, outdoor sculpture and historical roots – can easily be the colorful centerpiece for a Maryland getaway.

May Day

Downtown Annapolis residents and merchants welcome spring by decorating their doorways with baskets of blooming flowers. Some 20 volunteers from the Garden Club of Old Annapolis Towne judge the entries and invite winners to join them at an annual Garden Club Tea.

Springfest  celebrates spring and the upcoming summer season. It is four dynamic days of delicious food, live entertainment and unique arts and crafts under four huge big top tents located in the Inlet Lot at the south end of Ocean City’s famous Boardwalk.

Springfest serves up a continuous variety of musical performances on two stages. Admission to the four day event is free! All entertainment is free with the exception of the headline acts.

Towsontown Spring Festival

The Towsontown Spring Festival is the largest outdoor festival in Maryland and one of the largest on the east coast. Approximately 250,000 visitors attend the two day event with more than 450 vendors to satisfy the appetites of the patrons. In addition there are four entertainment stages.

Beyond the Garden Gates Garden Tour
May 16-17, 2015
For the past twenty years, hundreds of garden enthusiasts have descended upon downtown Frederick for the chance to explore the elegant, whimsical and inventive gardens nestled behind the gates of private Frederick homes each spring.

A favorite of residents and visitors alike, the Beyond the Garden Gates Garden Tour continues to grow in size and attendance. The annual tour has grown to draw over 800 visitors annually and has raised thousands of dollars for local garden clubs and multiple beautification projects around Frederick.

In addition to the the stunning landscapes, visitors are also treated to live musicians and plein air artists in many of the gardens, as well as a charming Hospitality Center where guests are invited to refresh themselves during the tour.

Secret Garden Tour of Havre de Grace

This tour features private gardens in Havre de Grace. Proceeds benefit the educational programs of the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum. Local vendors, crafters, artists, exhibitors and sponsors will also be at the pavilion of the Museum from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. (great door prizes too).

Chestertown Tea Party Festival
May 22, 2015
In response to British Parliament’s closing of the port of Boston, the citizens of Chestertown, Maryland met in May of 1774 and set forth “Resolves” forbidding importing, selling, or consuming tea in Chestertown. According to local legend, residents then gathered at the town center, marched down High Street to the brigantine Geddes, which was anchored in the Chester River, and tossed her cargo of tea overboard. The annual reenactment of that event is the centerpiece of the Chestertown Tea Party Festival.
