The AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center, anchored by the restoration of the 1938 Art Deco-style Silver Theatre, is in downtown Silver Spring. This complex also has two new stadium-seating theaters and exhibit areas. Another venue, the Majestic Theatre, has 20 screens. Round House Theatre presents live performances based on literary adaptations and contemporary works in a 150-seat black-box theater. Round House has another location in Bethesda.

Live summer concerts and the Silver Spring Jazz Festival in September are notable events. Silver Spring – accessible by the Metro’s Red Line – has more than 150 eateries, ranging from an authentic Irish brew pub to a white-tablecloth Moroccan restaurant with bellydancing to a chic industrial space that serves up Elvis burgers.
